41 Years of Service to the Community
The
Blue Point-Bayport LIONS Club is celebrating its 41th Anniversary
this year. Founded in March 1968 as the Blue Point LIONS Club, we changed our
name to reflect the communities that we serve. Committed to traditional LIONS
ideas, we are the original LIONS Club in the Blue Point-Bayport community.
The
club supports the LIONS International prime mission of being “Knights of the
Blind” by donating money to the Guide Dog Foundation to help pay for training
for guide dogs, donating to the LI Eye Bank, transporting corneas to local
hospitals for transplantation, and distributing used eyeglasses to “New Eyes
for the Needy.” The LIONS club has paid
for countless eye exams and glasses for people in need and we have also paid
for eye operations for local needy residents.
We
have awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating seniors from
the Bayport-Blue Point HS as well as presenting community service awards to
elementary and middle school students.
Over
the past 41 years, we have come to the aid of families in need during the
holidays with our annual Food Drive, helped families who were left homeless as
the result of house fires, modified a home to make it handicapped accessible
for a child injured in an accident, purchased vans specially equipped for
disabled people and paid for medical and other expenses for families who were
stricken with serious illness.
We
have continually supported the Bayport-Blue Point Little League, Bayport-Blue
Point Hockey, Bayport-Blue Point Booster Club, SEABBS, Cub Scout Pack 49, Troop
49 Eagle Scouts, the Bayport and Blue Point Fire Departments, Korean War
Veterans, and the Bayport-Blue Point Public Library.
In
1985, the Blue Point-Bayport LIONS Club constructed a permanent memorial in
front of the Public Library dedicated to all the veterans of our military
forces. In 2001 together with the Blue Point Fire Dept. we helped coordinate
Jack’s Day – the major Fund Raiser for Jackson Kane. In 2002, we were a major
organizer and sponsor of the 9/11 mural fund.
The
Blue Point-Bayport LIONS Club has the following fund-raising events coming
up. All profits from these events will
help to purchase our sixth Guide Dog, to aid local residents in need, and for
our HS scholarship fund.

men and women of the Blue Point-Bayport LIONS Club appreciate your support in
the past and hope that you will continue your generosity in the future. The Blue Point-Bayport LIONS Club has been
supportive of the local community for the past 41 years and will continue to do
so in the future.
